lets discuss.
A good manager supposes to give you guidance on your career; able to analyze and balance the work across team, and resolving conflict between members, so that everyone can feel comfortable
A good manager is the core of a good team. Switch a good manager for a bad one, the whole team goes to shit.
Having your manager be your sponsor and champion is critical to success. Cream always rises to the top however it can be overlooked with politics in the absence of a strong sponsor.
I had a good manager as well as switchboard type manger. I hated switchboard manager
Very. See this thread on an AMA from an eng manager at Uber: “I’m a (real) Eng Manager at Uber. AMA (Office Life)" https://us.teamblind.com/s/xfhryErz
Extremely important if you want to have a corporate career. I had a bad manager before that actually triggers me to switch companies; when I was under him I got projects taken away and reassigned to his favorites. After I put in my resignation, more than half of my old team member messaged me that they want to quit as well. During that 1.5 year in hell, a lot of mental/physical health issues occur - I lost motivation to work, had to see therapist on a weekly basis and my weight went up significantly due to stress eating. I never had this problem with my previous manager & was liking my job - enough exposure, good work life balance & challenging work. To certain point, I believe a good manager can attribute to why you love your job while a bad one will turn your team against you and you will hate coming to work on a daily basis
If you are in a shit project I am not sure if you would feel motivated to work even though having a good manager.
More important than own competency
Well said. Haha
My 2 cents... I was at a small company where the CEO treated everyone like garbage. Quite literally. My manager converse for us and backed us up for any screw up that wasn’t performance based and quite literally kept our heads above the water. If it was any of the other “yes” people as managers. The company would have quite literally shut down.
very important. I was in same team with two different manager. The bad one screws every single teammates and now half of teammates are gone including me.
