i am planning to move to Atlanta this year to work for an upcoming org? is it worth it?
I am in Minneapolis righty now, so don’t mind the cold. Also, I am from India so heat is no biggie.
You should be good then. It might have been a shock if you were moving from the Bay Area and used to the weather. Also, check around with Zillow/realtor.com for school ratings, and you can spot the not-so-awesome areas of Atlanta pretty quickly with this website https://www.neighborhoodscout.com/ga/atlanta/crime. As a whole the crime rate looks bad, but there are areas that are safe
Where are you from? You are sounding sarcastic.
Didn’t mean to sound sarcastic. Within Atlanta, the areas can change from good to bad in a short distance (you’ll see the pockets on the crime map in the link above.) As a rule of thumb, NW/N/NE Atlanta tend to be safer areas. The overall crime in Atlanta is high, but if you stay within the nicer areas, the crime is pretty low.
Thank you.
Atlanta was amazing for raising young kids esp. in the North, North West and North East suburbs, there are nice parks, nice museums , a lot of festivals that are kid friendly and even the somewhat not so nice areas are better than most places in Seattle. Lot of outdoor movies, plays and parks during summer. I’m probably going back once I eventually get fired. The heat can get bad but there are enough shady tree places that it is tolerable.
Sounds very optimistic. I am glad to hear this. Thanks
There are some nice areas. Buckhead is one area that has some good schools, and the commute is reasonable even if you would be working downtown. There are things to do outdoors if you go north OTP (highway 285) to areas like Roswell. Decent nightlife within reasonable Uber/Lyft distance too. Keep in mind what kind of weather you are willing to tolerate. Summer is hot and humid - can be 100F+ and 100% humidity. Winter is windy and cold, nearly freezing is common and down to 10-15F isn’t unheard of. There are a few weeks in spring/fall that are decent.
