I worked for a real asshole (would email at 2 am, call on weekends, yell at his employees/peers, etc) and was recently fired after standing up for myself and my team. how do I explain this to future recruiters & hiring managers? i want to be transparent, but also dont want to say I didnt see eye to eye with an ex manager.
Don't say that you were fired. Say that you quit because you didn't agree with certain negative practices that were occurring on the team. Nobody will care enough to look into this.
Use generic terms like got let go or got clipped.
I have never in my life had a recruiter ask why I left a job. The job ended; that's all there is to it.
You don't need to tell them you were fired because there's no way for them to find out. Companies only give dates of employment and positions held for background checks. Just say you left to take a break and are now looking for a new opportunity.
Tell them you have been laid off instead of being fired
And what if they back channel to someone they know? Isn’t it best to be transparent?
I don’t think they would go that deep. Worst case try and test this at a company you are least interested to join.
