hp friends sorry to hear this. whats going on? https://www.forbes.com/sites/rachelsandler/2019/10/03/incoming-hp-ceo-announces-7000-9000-layoffs-as-part-of-major-restructuring/?utm_source=FACEBOOK&utm_medium=social&utm_term=Paulie/#7061756c696
😞
I could see it coming. Especially since I myself got laid off by HP earlier in the year. I should have never stayed as long as I did.
That sucks. Whats driving it? Is it just bunch of bureaucracy bullshit or revenue going down?
I believe it is simply optimization to improve efficiency as the company is heavy and relies on a core portfolio comprised of mostly hardware devices (in a moment when software is king). And it will probably please the shareholders in a moment when stock is down. It will help the numbers to revert to positive. I just feel so bad for the people (including myself) who are losing their livelihoods. Those of us who are not yet old enough to get retirement. But are already too experienced to easily find employment in our tiers. It is cruel but that is how the corporate machine always works.
Pricing in a premium for printers with 3rd party ink compat vs cheaper printers that only work with HP sounds like a huge anticompetitive lawsuit. Thank god people break the DRM quick. Twats.
Think of it this way. People will get laid off but CEO, board and executive pay will not be slashed. And that is key issue. Remember when Steve Jobs agreed to work for stock and with a $1 salary per year? When Apple was down? That is what a founder does. Those who are ready to slash people instead, are just typical corporate capitalists. It’s kind of cruel but it is the norm here.
You realize that’s a drop in the bucket for a company that bloated, right?
As CEO, Steve Jobs was fired from Apple. In the corporate boardroom, nobody is invincible (excepting majority stakeholders, which are rare for public companies).
Comes as no surprise. I don't know about whole of HP but in my floor a lot of us, including me don't do anything worthwile and company doesn't really need us. It's like a desk job where I either get bored half the time or Leetcode.
Classic. The ones who work hard are loaded with work while others slack... We in firmware got plenty of work to do.... This company is going down because they refuse to make people accountable... Classic
Yeah well next week is my last one at HP. I resigned back in August itself even before Dion stepped down. I don't like to sit idle myself. Only thing I could have tried is switching teams but I lost all my motivation during the last review cycle. My point is also that there is a lot of redundancy at places and lack of accountability so maybe this layoff was inevitable. I don't know how things are for firmware team. All the best to you.
Much needed at the top and middle levels. Decent early retirement package. I believe many will take it.

Do you have anything else to do in the morning than correcting others? Complain much poor baby? Feel better.
Learn those two things first. Then talk. You work for Apple, both should be easy.
