Hello Blind community,

Next month I am joining Amazon, Bangalore as SDE-1. I was very enthusiast and excited, as I got this offer irrespective of my current TC which is 5L and my University.

But after seeing reviews on Blind about Amazon, I am litterally scared. WLB, Pip culture, LP, less growth, all these seems very problamatic.

Can you guys please boost my confidence by mentioning some nice experiences at Amazon?

I’ve been at Amazon 7 years. Majority of SDEs will never see or be part of a pip. The ones that do tend to be more vocal about it on blind. There are tons of SDEs that have long and fulfilling career at Amazon. You’ll interact with them once you start.

Amazon is fast paced. This ends up being more of a positive than negative for many SDEs at Amazon. The ones that don’t like that pace either find a slower team or leave to other companies.

Regarding growth, you will learn a lot and fast.

My suggestion is don’t bias your thinking by what you are reading on blind. Make up your own assessment once you start.

    Best of luck.

Not being in the 5% this year is no guarantee you won't be in the 5% category next year at Amazon. Everyone has family and life events at some point... which will take away focus from work .. being forced to always be in mission mode always is a burn out waiting to happen.

    Hey OP!
I also joined Amazon India recently and I was in same situation as you. My TC also increased by 300%.
It has been 5 months here, things are not that good not that bad. But good thing is high tc, amazon is still a great company to add on your resume ( already recruiters from google, indeed, intuit are contacting me on LinkedIn). So if you don't have any other better offer, join it :)

Never personally seen anyone get PIPed either. I’m personally shocked to see the posts on blind myself.

Some people are just full of sh*t, don't pay attention. I'm pretty sure amazon will become the most employee centric company by 2021 by intensifying it's mandatory pip ratio and there will be people crying to show their gratitude for being piped. It's all a show

Have backbone, disagree and commit. You can prove amazon is the most amazingly employee centric company in human history.

If you do get PIP-ed, please do your best to blame yourself. Killing yourself might be an option as well to save Amazon the severance package. Amazon will appreciate it and use the same resources to pip more teammates faster.
