Suggestion needed

My manager from my previous work place now works at Amazon and he introduced a position to me and I passed the interview. I am really enjoying working with him but after all, the TC is equal to what I have considered I’m not getting any refresher in next 4 years.

I believe he did everything he could to push my TC but from personal perspective, I still hope I’m moving with a higher package.

I don’t know how to say no to him as I feel bad and I worried about ruining our friendship, I really respect him but meanwhile since I’m preparing interviews, I’d like ti fight for a better TC so I feel achievement.

How do I tell him that it’s not my best option without hurting anything?

Tell him politely and professionally. And later meet him over coffee/lunch some day :). It’s very normal

^ this. And I respect your decision to not switch jobs for "not worth the trouble" money. Seems like you wouldn't mind leaving, but you need it to be a slam dunk. Tell him that. Just yesterday I tried to grab an ex direct report to where I am now. He's more interested in new tech and challenges. Which is good because I can't get him much of a boost 😂.

+1. Your manager would understand and respect your decision if you told him professionally. There is no certainty that you will continue working with him even after you join given the re-orgs or if he decides to move somewhere.

Move if you like the work and/or if you care about the brand and growth prospects.
