I'm interviewing with Intuit and had an issue I wanted to get thoughts on. The posting I applied to was for a "Principal" role. After my inital interview, the hiring manager gave very positve feedback, and said I'd be a great fit for the role, which the recruiter passed on to me. However, the recruiter also said that they would likely be changing this hire to a "Senior" role and asked if I'd still be interested in moving forward.
The problem for me personally is, I have been in Sr roles far too long and adding another lateral move doesn't look great. The recruiter said there is always opportunity to promote up, but I was really looking to move up by taking a new role and hopefully work to promote from there.
I'm wondering if I should push back and let them know I'd really prefer the original title I applied for or is it likely to hurt my chances of getting an offer.
