Need Product manager job interview

Little venting :

Its been like 1.5 yrs interviewing for PM roles.
Its really frustrating and demotivating.
I am specifically looking for PM in automotive industry.

I don’t understand how ppl outside this industry are landing these roles but Its been difficult for me to get an interview.

Everyone want a person who can get get in and start contributing from day 1.
No ramp up time or whatever.

What I am missing?

I flank at panel interviews where they ask for on hands experience on AV/EV tech. Ofcourse I dont have exp hence switching.

YOE : 4
TC : 100k

Should I give up automotive industry and expand my search in all industry domains and later come back?

You’re right, I think auto OEMs have very little patience nowadays. My company trained me from scratch when I switched from aero in 2017, along with a cohort of like 4 or 5 other people who made a similar switch. But since Covid, they’ve only been hiring people with a lot of industry experience. We haven’t even had any interns since 2017. I think it has a lot to do with how set back they are by Covid, and how hard it is to get people up to speed when everyone is working remotely. There’s also a huge rush and pressure to electrify ASAP for the traditional OEMs. I’d say if you really wanna get into auto, maybe work on an auto related masters on the side then try again later. Not sure what else you can do really since idk if this trend you’re experiencing would change going forward.
