In short:
think twice before your join
be well-prepared for the worst case
the PEngMgr does not understand design&architecture, or even coding. I guess because of his being a SDET originally.
(I never thought that a manager without strong tech background could be that deadly. It is even ironic when he criticizes, with disrespect, your profession, without giving a better solution or suggestion of any, always trying to "teach you a lesson");
always ready to kick you out, without worrying about your career, since you are not "profitable" enough according to them;
proud of micro-management, rather than tech. Threatens and taunting are much more than constructive suggestions. Pushing instead of guiding/coaching;
huge inconsistencies between what managers say and do: hypocritical, which also is part of micro-management;
bootlicking to make his voice heard;
loyalty-driven instead of tech-driven;
problems blamed instead of solved;
etc.
