I had an interview experience with VMware and i have been asked to solve the question in 30 min with coding. It took 7-10 min to understand the problem definition and the edge cases and another 5-10 min to arrive at the strategy to solve the problem, i was left with only 10-15 min for implementation and i could code the pattern and showed it to interviewer. He agreed with strategy but because I couldn’t complete it in time he referred me to another telephone interview. Does anyone of you find it strange? I could only finish a problem like this if i by heart the solution. Do you agree?

It usually take 1-2 minutes to understand the problem.

  • If you're too slow, practice more.

In my most successful interview, I solved 3 questions in about 50 minutes (2 were new, 1 I had seen before and told him) and he ran out of questions to ask me for the last 10 minutes or so.

So yes, it's possible. It does rely on luck though. I've also not finished a problem within 45 minutes. Just need more practice.

only answer is keep trying and dont crib about why they ask such stupid questions in interview process. if u want to work with good companies u have to adapt their interview style. no pain no gain.

Yeah you mind updating us with the actual problem? Just paraphrase. Sometimes a company may be trying out something new and you happened to be the guinea pig, unfortunately.
