Please share any feedback/comments. Curious about how they compare along:
- culture
- future prospects
- talent
- looking out for their employees,
- hitting targets/goals for bonus payout
- comp package and benefits

Specifically, Fortnite team vs Overwatch team?

  • The work at blizzard was more interesting, there is better average work life balance than the Fortnite team, but mileage per team will vary. Epic has better team cohesion, way better benefits, better comp, better HR policies. I prefer the 45 to 50 hour work weeks and more mandatory time off Epic has, and the way better cost of living in Raleigh over Irvine.

Admittedly my Blizzard experience is not recent.

It's like asking MySpace or Facebook...
Blizzard pays ๐Ÿฅœ even by the game industry standards. They've only started paying bonuses a couple years ago (and not the big bonuses other ATVI studios get too). Also at this time ATVI seem to be focused on thinning it, my Linkedin feed seem to flare up with people let go from Blizzard every quarter or so.
Epic pays much more and has studios outside California.
Prestige-wise also no comparison if you are a programmer. Might be different for artists/designers but you can essentially retire after a couple years at Epic and do freelance consulting for hundreds of shops that use UE and have no clue what are they doing. After 10 years in Blizzard you get a mug/sword/stuffed orc/whatever prize they give you every year and maybe a promotion.

    • I will also chime in and confirm that the profit sharing is pretty lack luster, unless youโ€™re on the WoW team. The latest profit sharing was terrible, and very lopsided to mainly favor the folks on the WoW team. I would recommend going to Epic, as Blizzard isnโ€™t doing very well and the future doesnโ€™t look so hot. During my time there, layoffs were happening more and more frequently.

You also get profit sharing only if you shipped something, it seems. So if you worked on one of the old hits then you are better than somebody who joined now and whose game will ship around 2030.

My friends at Epic are happy, they have quarterly bonuses and even a 2 week summer break. Since Fortnite became a hit the quarterly bonuses are really good, not sure how long thatโ€™ll last tho. On the employee lookout side, they filed a friendโ€™s OPT application for her, which is unheard of.

Define "Better Place to work" and how import $$$ is to you.

Blizzard pays shit, but it's one of those company you can literally do nothing and get paychecks. Plus Irvine,CA is great if you have kids and be asian.
