I'm an L4 SDE, at amazon since about a year and few months, currently on STEM OPT, and this will be the last H1B filing for me. Manager said my last years performance hasn't been up to the mark, and indirectly said to find a new job. At this point I'm just broken, my hands and feet are numb. If I knew about this even a couple of months before I would at least start preparing for interviews elsewhere but now I'm just panicking.
Went through a patch of major anxiety last year already with panic attacks, and I'm feeling they might relapse.

Haven't been active on Leetcode, so I'll need a bit of time to even get ready for interviews. I believe there is a 60 day unemployment period for STEM OPT, but I'm pretty sure that isn't enough. I used most of the 90 day initial OPT unemployment because COVID hit when I was searching for jobs.

What are honestly my options, do I need to prepare to leave the country, or reason with my manager to keep me for a while till I search for a new job? Any help would honestly be greatly appreciated. #engineering #swe #software

OP, GTFO of Amazon, you are 99.9% on devlist and can't transfer internally. Use up all your PTO to prep - they can't fire you while on PTO, or try taking sick leave asap - go to a shrink get a letter to support 4-6 weeks leave due to depression, etc. They'd likely do it.

If you could get into Amazon, you could get into Salesforce or MSFT without much prep. You could even go to the likes of Walmart or Visa as a backup plan - they hire everyone who has a pulse.

Very sorry to hear this. Job market is still hot so you should be able to find a new gig. Just out of curiosity, with the well known PIP culture at Amazon, how is this taking you by surprise ?

Dude you're in hottest field out there, have Amazon tag on resume. Don't worry you can find something else. Get out of negative mindset, start prepping and applying and hope for the best.

You cracked Amazon once, and you will surely be able to land another job if you try. Get back to preparing as soon as you can and line up interviews. Meanwhile work with your manager to see possibility of extending time on payroll. Like use ur vacation days etc.

I wont to jump to conclusions and assume that about op. He may have very well got in legitimately.

Panicking at this point is not gonna help anyone. The only mistake he can make is not to try.

If he got into Amazon through cheating, then the interesting question is- β€œwho is the victim here” or is there one ?
