Should I make the move outside my comfort zone?

Dec 23, 2021 13 Comments

Asking for some general life advice from you Blinders.

I have less than 1 year of experience. Lived in FL all my life. Got a new offer at an airline company in Dallas, TX for decent TC increase and fantastic benefits.

I feel conflicted about moving just because I don’t know a soul in Texas. All my friends, family, etc are in FL.

But also, I’ve been told to take risks and explore while young. I’d like to meet more people/date, I would think a nice ‘life reset’ / big city move should help with this?

I’m also in the process of making multiple changes in my life (less video games, be more social, take gym/diet more seriously, etc), so this would be a big push outside my comfort zone

I’m 22 and single.

TC: 85k -> 100k+

    You’re 22, it’s time to leave the nest.

  • You absolutely SHOULD move outside your comfort zone but my god does TX suck. Hated working there and the food is completely overrated. TX barbecue? Just bigger nastier portions lol

      Did you eat at Terry Blacks or Franklins? Texas has its problems, but by no means does it suck. OP is already in Florida so is used to the heat and the idea of driving everywhere.

    Contrary to the advice in this post, do what you feel inspired to do. If you enjoy being near family and friends, why give it up for some abstract idea of "getting out of your comfort zone"? On the other hand, if you feel excited to move and inspired to do so, do it.

    Disregard all the votes in this poll, because none of these people live your life and know your situation. Do whatever you want

      You know what the best part about asking strangers for advice is? They actually don’t care. So you get the unfiltered truth.

      Yes, but most people in this post assume that experiences can bring you lasting happiness, which is objectively false. So don't fall into the trap of "it'll be so awesome once I move out and I'll be happy forever", because that's just false.

    AA? Their employee flight benefits are really great, you can go anywhere for pretty much free as long as you time it right. If you’re young I’d work there for a while just to travel the world.

    Then again, with covid it’s hard to say when things return to normal-ish.

    Definitely do this. Unless you’re in Miami (and not with that TC), Florida is boring as fuck while young. You are going to have a much better experience in Dallas. Also working for an airline is a great way to travel cheap and see the world before you settle down.
