3 yrs experience after masters degree. My case just passed the hiring committee and recruiter told me the offer she put together for SVP approval is L3. Should I ask for L4? Recruiter said the interviewers and hc left very positive notes and thought I would grow and be promoted soon. Team matching just started. I don’t know about my tc yet - I think i will only know it when a team is matched. Also Im about to get an offer from LinkedIn. Can I use it to negotiate the tc AND the title? Last question: what do you think about design at google vs LinkedIn?
I can't say much about design at google. But if you want to know more specifics about design at LinkedIn, then PM me. Happy to help out. Also recruiters will tell you anything to bite the bait, and everything will not be consistent once you are in.
I joined Google as a new grad designer out of masters as an L3. Got promoted to L4 after 1 year. Almost everybody who joined around me as new grads got promoted to L4 in 1 to 1.5 years. So in case you prove you are under leveled, getting promoted within a year is by no means a stretch.

Two things: 3 to 4 is a big step up. At 3 years out of a masters there is going to be a lot of people already working for them that they can compare you to. So basically they’re not going to change it because it would put you in front of lots of people already working there. Your grade is just not that negotiable at your level of experience. Salary within range is negotiable though, but you need a reason to ask for more. I think there’s two things to ask them - do they hire new grads at that level ever (you should not be at an entry level position)and what grade do they hire PhDs (that’s the level you should be at) Second thing: NEVER listen when they say you could be promoted quickly. What they’re saying is ‘you aren’t that level now’. That’s it. If you take it at face value it also tells them that you’re willing to wait- and that hurts your prospects when it comes to promotion. They won’t need to promote you to keep you. I’m actually surprised they said this to you because it’s such a recruitment trope. They are promising nothing.
Thanks so much for the input! I read it on Quora that level 3 is interaction designer II, vs level 2 is interaction design intern, so my interpretation is all the full time designers would start at level 3? Not sure if I’m right
That sounds pretty likely, I’m sure someone else around here must be a googler.
