interviewed with rivian, the recruiter gets back to me the follwoing day texting the feedback looks good but the offer is super low balled. any idea if they negotiate well? #rivian
Tell them what number you need to leave. The recruiters are just doing their job. If they like you and want you to join, they’ll match it.

We need numbers, the recruiter is probably doing what he/she has been told to do. Negotiate, they need people fast because they have money but no product to deliver.

Startups are too greedy nowadays s interviewed for a VP of eng in a small startup and they didn’t want to give %, just a shitty num of stocks
If it’s anything beyond a series C startup they won’t tell you % of company in most cases as the cap table is complex enough and revealing enough info to give you a real % ownership number will reveal their financing terms.
Ask them the range and then negotiate hard. Also remember they are pre revenue so don’t expect FAANGM TC. Get the cash portion matched or exceeded (they will do that) and bet on the upside of an exit for the options. But be comfortable with the cash and ignore the options part completely as paper money won’t pay your bills.
Same here, really low-ball offer. It helps if someone at the Senior Director or VP level above can vouch for you but other than that they don’t negotiate at all. Don’t waste too much of time on them, not really worth such a low salary.
Agreed, if a director or higher vouchers for you then you're golden.

Two things, one early stage HW startup for automotive, they need A LOT of cash to go to production. Two, they are funded by Amazon, a notoriously stingy company when they were a startup. Also! I bet their HR is based in Detroit which can't understand Bay Area costs. They aren't a software company/startup and they don't have crazy ad money coming in.
I would want Bay Area money to convince me to move to Detroit!!
Very lowball and wouldn’t come up to even match my current pay. Not sure why, they have $1B+ funding
