My job title is: Member of Technical Staff. Nobody I speak with from other tech companies have heard of my title, is it just an old legacy title?
Salesforce use this title. MTS.
Oracle also
PureStorage as well.
What does that role do?
It is same software engineer
Does it really matter what your title within the company is? Most people just make up whatever job title they want for their resume any way
It’s a title born from Bell Labs. so being that you’re from ATT, it makes sense. The title is generally more research/development/architecture type roles rather than straight engineering roles.
Cisco uses it
Yes, it used to mean something as Cisco. A title that was earned and respected from your peers. Now it’s a diluted title which means I am getting a bigger bonus than most and my resume was full of the right buzz words.
Really? What grade level/track is it?
It doesn't matter
No many companies use the title. First one that comes to mind is VMWare
