I recently got a solid offer with pretty good title from Affirm that I am contemplating... I have 9 yoe and have been working in startups mostly. What I want in my next job is 1) personal and professional growth with clear trajactory- interested in switching from ic to managerial role in a year or two 2) work in a company with solid business model and ideally great upside IMO company upside is highly correlated with personal growth, thats why I think joining a well established startup means faster professional growth in the long run (comparing to FAANG side of the world) My experiences with the team has been pretty positive so far and the recent funding round is also pretty promising. but would like to hear what the community has to say, particularly current and past employees. what’s your thoughts on Affirm? do you think it is set up for success? what are the challenges it needs to conquer in order to succeed?
Fang is probably better (unless affirm wins the lottery) but affirm is fine.
I'm guessing you got rejected from every FANG?
No I didn’t interview with them this round. Got offers from G and F three years ago but decided to join a startup instead
Affirm is solid. I would accept without blinking. Very honest.
Please share details of your "solid offer"
First time I ever heard of Affirm is now. I checked the website. Read How it works. Selected Google Nest. It was a dead link that did not work as described. Not a great first impression.
Between all the blind posts of depression/opression at Amazon, bananas for lunch and the unheard of vesting cliffs, I honestly can't think of a worse company than Amazon. I hope I was misinformed and that it ain't so.
@gluu, Worst RSU vesting schedule for sure, but with the monthly cash that is supposed to more or less level you out the first two years, you are actually more liquid those years than places with yearly or quarterly vesting. No free food. Bananas are from Amazon for the community, you don't need to be an employee to get them free. Amazon is good for me, as it was a pay increase and not much stress at all. The building is mostly empty by 5 or 6. It depends on what team you are on. You have several hundreds of thousands of employees, including warehouses. There are 40k+ employees in corporate offices in Seattle. However many complaints you may have seen is probably a fraction of 1 percent. People who are upset are much louder. If a team is not good, it is easy to move, unless you are on a dev list. There are many better companies, but I'm not sure how you would conclude the worst. Just look up data at your own company Glassdoor.
Fuck affirm. Their recruiter was trash. Also, company sent me a lowball offer, and was only able to add a 5k signing bonus to the initial offer. Wtf
What was the offer?
Who was your recruiter 🤔
Share the offer please!!
I really enjoy working at Affirm. Smart people, lots of disenchanted ex FANGers. TC: 340k YoE: 15
Why low tc?
Mostly non-eng experience.
Albertsons is a better choice IMHO
Albertsons for the win🤑
