most compaines seem to have benefits that flip after 2 years. For example moving from a cash TC to RSU or share based TC after two years. Am i wrong in seeing this as a reason to leave espcially in cities where rent is absurdly high like LA, NYC, Bay area? RSU wont pay bills if you have to wait until the end of the year to exercise it. #amazon #disney
I base my standard of living off my base salary and treat RSUs as “this’ll be millions 1 day if I keep it invested” money Perhaps you need to adjust your standard of living downward
Yes but big cities cost of living is so high that it’s more and more difficult to live say near silicon beach reasonably. I don’t think it is worth 3+ hours of driving. Maybe I’m in the minority here.
I have a 20 min commute to my office in Manhattan - can you really not find an affordable place that isn’t 3+ hours away? Seems like an exaggeration
The 4th year is usually the sweetest. Then it goes downhill if you are not someone your manager needs to keep around.
Most companies are not AMZN no
Depends. I think people stay longer because work stress decreases. Tribal knowledge increases. Etc. Essentially, work becomes easier. Plus, if a recession comes again, many layoffs are calculated by seniority. Best to stay put.
Stay if you and the company are doing well. Leave if either not true.
they give us RSU every mont which you can just autosell. good as cash

Most companies I have worked for have annual bonuses and equity that vests evenly over four years with refresh grants. There's generally a drop in TC after four years if you don't get promoted, so get promoted. Does Disney use the Amazon style employee fucking compensation philosophy?
Right that’s typical of amazon and Disney but with rent increases etc it never seems to outpaces it. Ie cash front loaded tc first two years then all rsu second two.
Don't live off your RSUs. Those are for saving and investment. Base your standard of living off your base salary only. Also don't work for Amazon.
