A Mexican family just knocked on my door to ask for lawn mowing work. They were a family of Dad, Mom and teenage son, barely speaking english, going around the neighborhood asking if anyone needs their lawn mowed. They had new tools suggesting its a new 'startup' and they efficiently divvied up the duties and got to work: mom - raking, dad - trimming and edging, and the son took up the mower.
Few things that struck me:
- The obvious: stop complaining about how hard it is in an IT job
More importantly:
- how they built a 'team' from their own family members and are executing with great 'team work' and 'culture'
- how they recognize and value the opportunity and possibility in the new country
- Their initiative and entreprenuerial spirit to go knock on doors and find customers
- The desire to believe in and do honest work
- not to belittle their hardship, the sense of adventure in their enterprise
To sum it up, I guess its a reminder - work can be more than dreary monotonous drudgery.
Sharing as we prepare for the week ahead.

But I will still complain about how hard it is in an IT job. They are working with the people they love and despite hardships that makes a huge difference.
IT job people are working with backstabbers who are waiting for their demise.
It’s apples and oranges.
