Hi Team Blind.

This post is meant to serve as a bit of a rant / covid-layoff situation. I was laid off Q2 2020 due to COVID from a Kubernetes Platform Vendor (they thought of themselves as a direct competitor to RedHat OpenShift / Rancher in their Kubernetes product offerings.

I have solid experience selling into enterprise accounts and was familiar with the CNCF / Cloud-Native Partner and DevOps landscape.

One of my former colleagues who I won a great strategic deal with, left to Google before the ship sank, and I leaned on him for a referral to Google for their GCP FSR Roles (Corporate FSR & Enterprise FSR). I had applied before, to no avail using a general application.

When using the referral, a recruiter reached out to me within 24 hours of my application, asking to coordinate an interview. We made it work and had an awesome time connecting. He told me I'd be a great fit, and would reach back out to me once he had specific timelines for a REQ opening. (April 2020)

I had a couple of touchpoints between April and July and stayed consistent in my communication with him to make sure he knew I was very interested in the role. Same response "We don't know anything yet due to covid... Let's regroup in October" After some radio silence, I started nudging him on available national openings for the role after attending one of their Google cloud networking events, where my interactions with other teammates and recruiters were viewed very positively.

October came, Radio silence...

Landed a Job late November (Grateful) after an 8 month Job search, with a great DevSecOps company.

Any thoughts on why the lines of communication could have gone dark? Is it typical for a recruiter to just ghost after indicating that you'd be a great fit?

I'd still be interested in working at GCP as an FSR, but that experience left a really bad taste in my mouth. If anyone had any experiences in their hiring process In GCP Sales, I'd love to hear your story.
