I interviewed for a Senior Finance Manager role and was told there were 2 analysts on the team. Got an offer and they’d changed my title to Director, which I was thrilled out. When I started working one of the analyst’s got promoted to Director also!

I was pissed and I complained but neither HR nor my manager did anything. The pay is good so I stayed. TC: ~$160K.

Now a year later, I got a lousy 4% raise while the other “Director” got between 10-15% raise. She has started acting like my boss since the review.

I’m def leaving soon (applying for jobs). Is there anything else I can do?

$160K seems light for director level. YOE? I’m in a manager role for $150K TC with 8 years experience. Definitely should look elsewhere to get what you’re worth

I’d say about 10-11 years of experience. I have a couple of years of break being a stay at home mom. But I have an MBA.

I say keep looking then! Also look at remote opportunities where the role is based in cities with higher cost of living.

      Yeah exactly!
Manager specifically told me that she wasn’t ready for a promotion and then promoted her to Director.

Since you said the finance team is only 4 members it could be that the analyst has major contributions and tenure and is difficult to replace. With external hiring the org structure could be heavily top heavy which is why they promoted her.

Definitely a bad move by your hiring manager, just trying to make sense of things here, not supporting him.
