TC is same like my current comp. but cliffing from next year.
recruiter told the feedback are good, but they reached the E6 limit (or very close). given an option to take additional rounds for E7.
has anyone done this before? what are these additional rounds? just design rounds?
also, how challenging E7 is compared to E6, which one will have better WLB?

If you’re not pre-allocated I’d recommend you talk to infra teams. Depending on your expertise, could be “easier” to have E7 level impact with a smaller scope in those.
And I agree that E6 was setting the team direction while for E7 is several teams across the org (or the whole org if you or is not super big).
WLB wise, I've never had issues with that, work for me is very enjoyable so its never really too stressful. I have noted that my work methodology changed a lot from 6 to 7,
5 to 6 was changing the mindset from team-centric to org-centric with some effort on influencing and communicating with XFN, every design and system I envisioned had to have a scalability/generalization characteristic, so it could be leveraged by several teams across the org.
6 to 7 was a massive change on how I had to approach work, and while I am an IC I do very few coding nowadays, it is mostly writing docs, conceptualizing problems, planning for 2-3 years of work and formalizing ideas to fulfill those plans. Then selling those to a wide array of XNF at several levels (SWE, PM, DE, DS) from IC to VP. The little coding I do is mostly for very critical stuff that has a lot of dependencies (hundreds of internal users, hundreds of dependencies) that require flawless execution with ideally no downtime.
E6 max is 240/1.2M - you’re over that already. Did you have competing offers?
