twitter. stripe. airbnb. lyft. apple. pinterest. spotify. snap. ? is it because they recruite more senior positions? like netflix? however. ive been able to get phone / onsites interviews at. amazon twitch. dropbox. facebook. google. robinhood. #career #tech
In my experience, referrals/networking for Stripe, AirBnb and Lyft go a long way
I had a referral for stripe and got contacted the same day.
Assuming you are in Seattle, apply for Seattle positions wherever possible. If you apply for SF or east coast roles, sometimes it can be ignored. That said, I have NEVER EVER got an interview call from Microsoft when applied online. All the calls I get are for hiring events.
What's the difference between a hiring event and an 'interview'? :)
The Microsoft application portal is broken. You’re application will never get noticed. Only way to get an interview is by working with a recruiter or a hiring manager
One word: hiringFreeze
love the 🐪 case

Depends on your experience and where you’re coming from. All companies you listed are tech companies so they’ll hire appropriately (more tech- easier to get interviews but maybe not jobs; biz side harder to get job and interview because less roles available)
Lol applying to jobs through the msft job portal is like tossing resume down the trash
The funny/sad thing is that this is also true when applying as an internal candidate
No kidding - that's terrible -___-
they look down on microsoft because it’s not as young and hip
Maybe that’s a reason. Used be in Microsoft and never got contacted by them. My application to Pinterest was even rejected immediately although have referral. After joined G, all of them except Airbnb reached out to me periodically.
Same experience here. Leaving Microsoft was tough, mostly second tier companies that were interested. Then I landed the gig at google and it opened tons of doors.
Look good on paper...... that’s the magic
Personally. I would skip your email because it reads like spam. Also, interest in you depends on your level of experience and specific background. If it isn’t what the companies are looking for you should also expect to get skipped.
If OP writes resume/cover letter as it was done in the OP post, you got one potential reason right there. Needs to improve punctuation, for sure.
Heard rumor about they have some stereotypes against MS engineer.
To be fair. Lots of us have found many of the stereotypes to be true in practice - especially for more junior folks.
what are the stereotypes?
Same for microsoft as well. Hard to get recruiters attention :(
I once barely had one recruiters attention, got to on-site stage and then never sent me any of the details or anything, just ghosted me
Really? Two recruiters messaged me today for virtual event ? Add recruiters on LinkedIn
