  • Depends on what you want to do.

Working at a tech company gives you the opportunity to build a tech product. Depending on your role you may have the chance to impact millions of users.

A lot of universities use hedge funds to manage their endowments. The money goes towards helping poor kids get a college education. Working at a hedge fund gives you a chance to transform these kids’ lives.

HFT is very different from Hedge Fund. HFT isn't capital intensive and the prop shops which engage in it just make use of their own private capital. You aren't helping anyone except the firm and yourself.
