Do I get access to all the Google perks? I will be working in Santa Clara Do I get in to the super secret area of Blind? what should I do/know if I want to get hired as a white badge? I am a giant nerd, are there groups or gatherings I can go to to get in good with the YouTube teams?
You'll need a Google email address to get into the super secret area on Blind.
do you get one as an Accenture contractor?
yes.
You will get access to most perks. If you're a vendor there is a higher chance of being converted. There is a special post thread for Google affiliated emails in this app. Yes, there are groups, since you're not a white badge you won't be able to see them. They seriously cracked down. 😒
Couldn't they have made the badges a more race neutral politically correct color than white badge, where white is the highest privilege? E.g. Blue badge (Microsoft), or non-grey apple logo badge (Apple), and also blue badge (Amazon). Someone should write a memo about this, at their own peril of course
it has balls or some weird design that's in Google colors mixed up. I wouldn't go into it over badges. it's prob to save on color printing cost.
I was talking more about groups that meet in the Google Plex or somewhere, even on my own time. I was told there might be a group that discusses or a committee that somehow works with YouTube in things like policy, procedure, the future of the platform, etc. The work equivalent of an extra curricular activity.
Right, and I'm saying there's internal pages for that & they're locked down to white badge LDAP access. What you're seeking is word of mouth.
ok, how would a guy like me meet these people. now I am intrigued, like I am looking for some secret society of nerds. I am thinking my initial strategy will be to take my lunch in the cafeteria and listen for the people debating whether Jorah or Jamie have a better chance to be Azor Ahai.
don't post any manifestos
Don't get your hopes up. They will use you and treat you like a second class citizen. They love it when you are seen and not heard. Don't step on a real Googler's toes. Just because they lack experience and intelligence, their ideas are worth far more than yours. You will not be hired by Google, those days are over. If you are lucky you might just get to work your whole two years, maybe. Don't worry if you seen to be working harder for less than your Google counterpart or leader, you are. It's in the handbook. Don't get any ideas about anything other than what the thought leaders at Google tell you you should think, especially don't write a manifesto about it. BTW, all the cool nerds went to work somewhere other than Google.
That seems awfully negative. I guess I will have to bring the nerdy back, one obscure reference at a time.
Nah, take it someplace where they hire actually nerdy people, not someplace based on how skinny your jeans are, who you voted for and how expensive your San Francisco haircut was.
As someone who worked at one of the DCs through a contractor I can attest to what the PM at Google above has said as true. But don't sweat it, I make three times more than the Googlers I worked with now and still love my job just as much. Just realize it's a stepping stone and remember they can pull the rug out anytime. I've seen them fire 50 contractors in a single day.
You won't get hired by google, and I would not like to be an operations employee in accenture.

Don't disagree too wildly with the established opinions, particularly with regards to ideological meritocracy, because it can't be distinguished fairly from legitimate sexism. It hasn't ended well for everyone lately who has done that. Don't take food home (a slice of pizza left out is OK, but don't take home a frozen pizza). All the best to you.
