It seems curious because on paper it should be right up there with them (market cap, stock price, name recognition, etc.) yet seems to be thought of as a step below. Is it the level of innovation, relatively low comp, or just generally too mature (old) of a company?

Apple doesn’t pay better than a lot of non FAANG company, but Apple prestige puts it in FAANG. I think the same goes for Microsoft
Standard offers are annual TC of $350k at L65, $450k at L66, $550k at L67, not inclusive of signing.
When someone has competing offers above those, all we do is increase the sign-on, which is also just the first year or two. The high-looking offer numbers are always just someone who negotiated a very large ($300k, up to $400k for L67) sign-on bonus.
L67 expectations are on par with L7/E7. L66 are more like E6.5 in terms of scope, yet they get paid like an E5 externally.
