After being an engineer in several teams and successfully delivering several launches at Amazon, I would like to pivot my career towards entrepreneurship / people management/ product etc.

I feel like I want to do an executive MBA from top schools and change my role.

Folks who have done this, could you please suggest which options I can pursue? Do Stanford, Berkeley or any other schools offer such degrees? Also do companies typically sponsor either in full or partially?

Any info is appreciated.

Executive mba is for people already in leadership roles and looking to make the climb even higher. You’d be better suited for a part time MBA program if you’re an SDE

Exactly. It’s supposed to be the icing on the cake. If you want the cake, you need FT or PT that treats you just like the FT with regards to career services.

I did my full time MBA and it definitely helped me to grow faster that said all executive and evenings class mates used to get a second class professors and with a lower entry criteria to get in than full time folks. Moreover, in the last five years things have moved heavily around technology and folks with MS etc are doing much better than MBA in terms of their earning. Executive MBAs look good on your CV and that’s about it

EMBA requires a lot investment And you can get a similar experience by working at Amazon in PMT roles. L6 PMTs make close to the same amount as you do and you can learn by operating at that role. Btw MBAs from top univs land a L6 PM role at Amazon at 230K salary. If you can get a PM role internally you are saving yourself a lot of time, money and effort. If you are a PM at Amazon, no one cares if you have an MBA or not.

  • If you already in engineering management, many companies will sponsor in hopes that you rise through their ranks & stick around if they see potential in you. Might have *stay for x years* clause attached to sponsorship. If you aren’t yet an EM, it’s a harder case but still possible.
