Distance is around 20 miles one way. How long does this commute take during rush hour on weekdays? Anyone do this commute? Does it get annoying/old quickly?

I used to do the evergreen to Sunnyvale commute. Depends on a bunch of things. Day of the week, Times of day and use of carpool/ electrical vehicles. Let me give you the best and worst without carpool and ev and in the 5 pm -7 pm range. Worst around 1 hour 20 mins on Wed/Thursday at 8 am SJ-> SNVL and 5pm SNVL->SJ....Best around to 45 mins SJ-> SNVL Friday 9 am, 45 mins SNVL->SJ Monday 6:30 pm

You need to try to avoid rush hours. When you go to work, leave after 9am and while coming back, leave after 7pm.

  • For 4 years I drove from a Willow Glen to Sunnyvale. Even though it’s gotten worse in that time (35-40 minutes morning turned into 45-50 minutes, 40-50 minutes home turned into 45-60 minutes), your route can make a big difference. Driving in, I would take 87/101 and driving home would be 85/280. Try out different ways to figure out what works best. Waze can give some crazy directions through surface streets which I usually avoided. If your commute time can be flexible, 3-4pm is smooth sailing on the way home (101 or 280).
