I have a FB interview in 1 week but I’m getting hung up on leetcode mediums. How do I stop feeling so defeated? It feels like there’s no point in exerting more effort if I’m gonna fail anyway

Just say f*** it and tell yourself I will do my best but accept that this will not turn into a “hire” decision. I will use this to collect all information for the next round which is in 6 months. This is your dry run! Relax!

Find other people who are trying to prepare for interviews at top tech companies and help each other. It’s much easier than doing it all by yourself

Good point, or pick up a book like cracking the coding interview, learn how to approach different types of problems, then practice them after you feel like you understand them...

I understand them. Also I’ve read the CTCI algorithms chapters but they’re very basic.

I know the feeling of not being fast enough at solving LeetCode medium problems and feeling defeated.

In the past it has helped me to solve a few easy level problems to build up confidence before going back to mediums

  • Honestly take a break for a couple hours or a day or two and don’t put so much pressure on yourself. Relax and give it your best shot. Also you work at Amazon, if this doesn’t work out you’ll end up in a good place in a couple months their way.

    • There is no for finally happy. In every job and every position there is always better.

Don’t get me wrong, Facebook would be awesome, and I hope you get it. But as long as you are in an ok state with Amazon, it’s not existential if you don’t get it.

Trust me, joining Facebook isn't some magical plateau you reach. Sure we have good benefits and fun offices, but it's a constant state of learning new things and trying to figure stuff out. It takes years to know what's going on here and to master all the systems. If you think just getting that one job is it, you'll be miserably disappointed when you find out the work just started and your going to be working hard every day to work your way up once you're in.
