Hi,
So my H1B stamp on my passport with the previous employer is till Aug'2022. I was supposed to file an extension but before that i moved to another company and my visa automatically got extended till Aug'2025. In that case since it automatically got extended is there anything I need to do? Except i might have to do the stamping next time I go to India (in Dec, since my stamp is only there till Aug'2022) but do I need to file a separate extension or anything? ( I don't think so, but still confirming)

  • You don't have to do anything, your status is automatically valid till Aug '25.
Your stamp is valid till Aug '22 and you can travel on that stamp.

This is assuming you already have a stamp from your previous h1B.

This is assuming you have a valid stamp til Aug'22

Correction - your "visa" did not get extended. You just have a new I94 with a new set of dates. You need to go thru the visa process if you leave the country after aug 22 (assuming that's your "visa" expiry date and that you're not confusing it with the current I94 date)

Visa expiry date - the date on your visa stamp in your passport.

I94 date - what's on your new I797 or if you've traveled recently, then on the site.

Check the dates on your I94 on the bottom of the I797 approval page. If that’s also 2025 (which usually is) then you are good.
