Amazon may be the butt of most jokes here but it is killing it and the stock shows, Netflix is fast expanding in the pandemic, Apple posted stellar Q2 results despite pandemic and is growing its subscription based business, Microsoft has moved in the right direction with Teams and Azure cloud platform.

Where is Google? What was the last banging product they released? Stadia, the new Pixel, GCP, Google Meet? Will Google be dethroned as the poster child of innovation in the coming years?

Edit: I guess ‘innovation’ is a very loose term. What I mean is make a new product which is successful in the market both in terms of user experience and profitability for the company. Should have used better terminology in hindsight

  • Apple has no innovation. Just brainwashed and idiotic fanboys.

Google is also the leader in ML and AI.

How's Microsoft teams innovation? They stole that idea from Slack .
Apple's innovation is upgrade HW in the same line of products? Latest innovation is killing headphone jack ?

Amazon is not innovation they are the epitome of execution. Simplest of ideas executed well is Amazon. No Innovation after Alexa and Kindle, both of which are losing market.

I felt Google buds and call screening is really innovative.

Google glass was and Microsoft Holo lens is exceptional innovation and way ahead of time , so they will never fly. So it's not just innovation, it's also what makes sense business wise.

IMO, Innovation(in biz context) is any solution that’s 10x better with market fit. So everyone’s doing autonomous cars right now, but whoever gets first to mass market adoption where the solution convinces users that it’s worth paying for and safe enough for government regulators would qualify as innovation. What Google does a lot is called playing with expensive toys. Tesla is another good example of innovation.

Just imagine the possibilities of a really good translation coupled with Google buds. It will be next Android like innovation in the lives of humans. Two people not knowing same language can converse live where Google buds seamlessly acts as translator is called innovation. You need to read about some of the improvements Google brought to translation. That's definitely innovation.

If not for Google , if someone else had bought Android , it wouldn't have been what it is today. Innovation is that , that brings a paradigm shift to day today lives of humans , how they live, interact , perceive.

Google changed the whole landscape and day today lives of many in poor countries by building and making Android free. Today ,low cost smartphones have changed and transformed generations. That's innovation.

Google Maps is innovation , though Google bought it and built to what it is today.

Google search was innovation when it was first built.

Google books - Digitizing books was innovation ( not many know it) , Google working to digitize every book ever existed in earth.

MSFT made a home computer a reality, that's innovation.

Apple - changed how everyone perceives design, that's innovation.

FB - changed the Social interaction, that's innovation.

Amazon customer obsession is Innovation too, because no one built anything like this before. Ppl shop on Amazon more because of their trusted customer service.

Tesla is definitely a innovation, they brought a paradigm shift in the industry.

Teams, G Meets , that are all just building for a use case and someone built a better solution than the other.

  • Microsoft has limited innovation as well. Azure just copies GCP and AWS. Teams is following zoom and slack at best

  • Google has the most innovative products, sadly they dont succeed. Unlike Facebook or Microsoft, Google doesn't seem to copycat and call it innovation, which seems to be not working for them.

Every word. And if anyone remembers, Google Wave , that was way ahead of slack and was killed. Gtalk integration with Gmail was so well ahead of time, hangouts just killed Google's advantage in IM.

Let’s be real. Wave was cool but nowhere as functional as Slack.

Gtalk was an IM client. Hangouts failed to straddle both the IM and mobile messaging roles and now Google is betting on RCS. What’s a joke. They should’ve invested more on Hangouts or just gone all in on Allo but nope. Too late to copy WhatsApp in 2020 with RCS.
