I came from seattle and one thing I will say is that you should either do top 10 or don't do it at all.

    • I concur, i am doing Leadership MBA from UW graduating this year. The electives are a joke. They keep rotating the profs and we had our share of worst. If you think you would get a good job just doing MBA in UW you will be disappointed. A friend of mine is doing from Wharton in SF,200k$ but much worth it. UW is not relatively cheap

If you want to stay close I would suggest haas school or business. They have weekend programs etc. but the whole point of an MBA is to network which would require full time. That said, haas will be the most flexible.

If you graduate you can go to amazon and they will hire new MBA grads as senior PMs. Bingo.

If you are a rockstar PM or a rock star engineer, with great projects to showcase, you may really not benefit from MBA. But, if you are an average joe like me, then there is every need to get an MBA or pursue higher education.

Are you planning to stay at microsoft? If that's the case getting the MBA will not get you a better role or better projects. It might help you shift to a different type of role perhaps. The fact that you chose the TMBA etc. makes me think you are going to do it part time correct? If you stay on your team and get the degree, don't expect them to bump up your salary. I was at microsoft before and also got my grad degree. It did nothing. When I jumped to another company that was a whole different case. Then it might actually help. It all depends on how you move forward with it.

I have heard this before, that MBA is not necessary, you can jump to a product manager role with experience, do it in the top 10, yada yada.. But, I personally feel my bachelors is not good enough & I have not gained anything from past 5 years! I live in the Seattle area and the only option I have, is UW. I need to enhance my career, shift to a different role, get noticed! How do I do that??!!

Depends on what you are trying to do and what your precious background is. If you were in engineering before or something more technical, an MBA can help you get into product management, product marketing, BD, etc when you graduate. Or you can go back into management technically. However another reason is that if you go up high enough in the ladder, it looks good on your resume haha (exec level). But honestly not necessary. There's always two sides of a coin.
