Slave culture of Big4

Nov 8, 2020 20 Comments

Many a times, The big 4 especially EY and Deloitte will make their employees slog for their partner profit and treat one like a slave. Recently had an experience, I had informed my boss I wud be on a trek for two days ( SaturdaY Sunday), yet the person has the audacity to text and say finish the so and so and submit by EOD. Like do they even listen to what the employee on says???? On texting h back and reminding m on a trek, the person says finish it by EOD anyhow. Like what drugs r u on????
They do not respect employee working hours, personal space and time with family and create unnecessary stress in life.
If u think big4 is a dream then u can live a dream of a slave.

This comment is very ignorant. Most people are told to start this career because it offers so much upward mobility, stability, good pay, etc. and the entire narrative is bullshit. You’re treated terribly, can get fired at any moment, the pay is mediocre for the hours, and you can only move up if people like you. Having been in tax for 3 years and finally leaving now, the fact anyone thinks accounting is a good idea is truly bewildering

  • Don’t answer your phone. I know everyone’s experience is different but if I didn’t shut off my phone I would be working 10-15 hours more per week at least

I’ve been in EY and Deloitte. I’ve seen this in behavior is more persistent in Deloitte. However, you should grow a pair and learn to say NO. You can change projects or raise a complaint if you’d like. I’m pretty sure the HR’s are aware of this.

This will continue as long as people don’t start saying NO instead of making them understand reasons.

It’s the same everywhere. Was in Big4 moved to JP Morgan and I feel big 4 was lot better. High bureaucracy!

Heard too many of these stories from friends and made sure I never come close to the big 4. Also heard there's no one with a functional life, everyone who gets more senior is divorced and depressed supposedly. You didn't hear these stories before you started? Unless it's something you really really love, probably not worth paying this price?
