“But it requires the energy equivalent of about 100 barrels of oil to fabricate one battery capable of storing the energy contained in a single barrel of oil. Importing batteries manufactured on Asia’s coal-heavy grid means that consumers are just exporting carbon-dioxide emissions, along with jobs. It takes years to offset those emissions when the EV is plugged into our real-world power grid, where coal and natural gas still account for 70 percent of electricity generation.”

  • About $30 a month extra on electricity. Probably paid about $30 for supercharging in the last 14 months. Spent $0 on maintenance. Insurance is less than my ICE car, so yeh it's one of the best purchases I ever made. I have a long range Model 3.

You don’t buy tesla to save money. With that mindset go look for something else in the 10k range.

Pump your breaks a little on Tesla, we’re not talking about a Rolls Royce. 😅

    • Ya, but he’s saying you can just get a cheaper car if you are just looking to save money. The comparable is if you’re looking at a similar price ICE car. In that case, the cost of ownership would be lower

Best car I've ever driven. Got a model 3 at the beginning of the year, it's a joy to drive. Nothing like the instant acceleration!

I live in an apartment in a non-major city - I just charge it at my work office for free :) so for me, it's cheaper since "fuel" is free.

Some states like CA is going to charge an extra fee for electricity vehicles since the state is not making money from taxes on gasoline. The fee is $150-$175 annually starting from year 2020. I heard currently registration fees is around $600+ annually.
