I am having trouble deciding to jump ship to SpaceX. They offered 220k TC and in my current job I am at 230k TC. I want to work on something meaningful but I am also worried about the financial risk.
Worth it. They are gonna take off.
It’s simple to figure out. Does the job change help you change your work right now? Then accept it, if not find another.
Good to know how your WLB will change too. Congrats on the offer!
If you think your Amazon WLB sucks, wait till you get to Spacex
Did you work at SpaceX? Or saying this just based on Blind Knowledge?
My wlb at Amazon is really good lol
220k for base ? What about RSU/options?
SpaceX has said they're not going public until Mars mission succeeds. Until then your RSUs are paper money. Are you willing to risk it and wait that long?
If TC wasn’t the primary factor, I’d be at SpaceX in a heartbeat.
One thing about spacex is they only buy back stock 0 to 2 times a year and you are unlikely to sell all your vested shares in a buy back period. Not to mention their vesting period is 5 years. If you leave the company, it will be harder to sell them since first priority is given to current employees. Elon has said numerous times he will not go public with spacex until they are doing regular missions to Mars. If you are part of starlink and they spin off and go public, then you will hit payday. Also worth noting is there's no bonus (last I heard)
Previous SpaceX investors have been investing in starlink for several series of funding by now. I wonder how they pull off a carve out without pissing off too many people.
I only included it because at the beginning of the year spacex mentioned the possibility of starlink spin off and ipo https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2020-02-06/spacex-likely-to-spin-off-starlink-business-and-pursue-an-ipo
I wouldn’t have switched You will regret it
not every job at spaceX can change the world
I'd say a few years ago a new joiner would get the kind of impact they are looking for. But there are now projects many people internally don't want to join, and they're recruiting. There is mobility among groups but if you get hired into an understaffed project it will probably be hard to move
What projects do people not want to join?
