What do you think is the right approach:
1. Firing 15% of the employee base( HR, sales etc) or
2. Reduce salary of all employees by 10%( engg, Sales, HR) w/o firing

What is your opinion. Let's take example- Disney or Local gym chain. Take your pick to answer

Make 15% employees pissed off vs all employees pissed off.... The choice is clear.

No one was fired, no list was created bcz the CEO decided that saving will come out of lower pay. So no individual references ( I assume this will be default scenario)

Cmon... There is always a list. Every team has top and bottom people.

Option 1. Cut the people you need less of. Obviously money isn’t coming in so there is less work. As long as that’s rare or a one off things are fine.

In option two you upset literally everyone. People won’t push as hard and it’s a downward spiral.

Unless it’s super small family thing, then option 2 can sometimes be well received, but rare.

Considering CEO pay, reduce the CEO’s pay. That’ll save quite a few jobs at the lower levels. Make one look good (on paper) with public, investors, employees. Boost faith and morale across the company. Money isn’t everything. Taking drastic cuts to the bottom line has longer lasting effects that can be difficult to rectify in the long-term.

You forgot the number 1 option. All company executives and officers don’t take pay for the year. Then if you still need to cut, cut employee base. Most companies are about 20% overhead so you have enough to cull from back office things like HR, finance, etc.
