I Love Nextdoor. Lot of potential there. My neighborhood groups have become lot more active lately and it's great. Nextdoor folks: Do you guys want to open a small Seattle office? :-) It's all about building a community. The people who think FB can copy them if they wish to, are wrong. People want different social apps for different purposes: Everyone on my block doesn't want to be FB / Insta / Snapchat friends with me. Nor do you want to see posts about landscaping contractors regularly on general purpose social apps. Even if FB creates technical solutions for this, it doesn't change the consumer's mindset.
Right now we have international offices for operations, growth, and marketing. Various domestic offices for mostly sales. Core action happens in SF where all the product development is located. Glad to hear you’re a fan, we have a lot of work to do but we’re making a lot of progress and we’ll be approaching profitability soon. A Seattle office doesn’t seem too crazy but may take a couple years.
Next door: app to learn how crazy and ridiculous your neighbors are.
Lol I get that people like having separate apps for things which is why snapchat was so popular but then fb made snapchats features I to all their apps and crushed them. Fb can make their own Neighborhoods app and destroy nextdoor the same wa simply due to the brand. I don't know anyone personally who's heard of nextdoor granted I'm a college student
If you were a homeowner or had a family, it's more likely you would have heard of it. Every good, useful idea doesn't need to dominate the world! The difference compared to snap is that Snapchat is a general purpose social app. FB has failed at so many efforts that go mostly unnoticed in public discourse. And failing is not a bad thing for FB.
You’re a college student, of course it’s not on your radar. 70% of our users are homeowners and people invested in their communities. As a result they are a bit older. This mix will change as we grow, but it’s great for us in the early stages. You can imagine what this means for our monetization potential. Especially since people see us as a utility. $$ Let me put it this way, we’ll be profitable before we IPO (if we want to be). Snap still is not profitable. Look at our jobs page to get a sense of the global footprint we’re quickly building.
Cheers! Nothing there yet, but perhaps one day.
