This is gonna be a long but completely veracious(truthful on the account of everything I've experienced) post, so kindly bear with me. I'm currently located at Infosys Pune(one of the better offices of Infy), India. This will be an account of WLB at Infy. This is my first company and I had some expectations from it, all of which went down the drain. After a glittery life at Mysore during the training days to Pune, I've had it all. My first posting was at Chennai and I needed a transfer. And getting a transfer was such a hard nut to crack. My manager back then kept on tricking me and telling me that I'll have it in a while but just kept on delaying. Then eventually I stopped working and then only somehow I got released from the project only to get assigned to a new one at the same DC. I had to struggle and put a lot of efforts to get rid of that and finally bagged a place in a new project at Pune DC. Although I wanted to shift my tech, but I accepted whatever I was getting as I desperately needed a transfer. My first few months at Pune were good and then came the lockdown and the pandemic which worsened my situation. Senior folks started leaving/not working and all pressure came on us. I used to work 12-14 hours a day completing my tasks as well as those of others while completing several adhoc tasks on a daily basis. It's a support cum maintenance project with little scope of dev based on Mainframes. During the last quarter of 2020, my mother succumbed to Covid and it was damn serious(kinda fatal). I took a leave of just two weeks and all that while my mom was admitted. So when she was discharged, I got back to work. Being the elder son, I had to take care of everything, from indoors to outdoors, to banks/finance, to my little sis(whose boards were approaching) and even cook, clean, and all. And among all this, I became a bit inconsistent. Also, since the senior folks weren't performing, I along with 2-3 others were given Γ5 times the work that we would have done normally. Obviously, the pressure was huge. But I kept on doing. But even then, my TL complained that I wasn't consistent and as per him, I had to do it no matter what. Somehow the time passed but the work pressure was still huge. Then came April 2021 and few of my relatives died in the second wave. Since I was the elder son and my father was also diagnosed with covid this time, I had to go for final rituals. There, I stayed at my friend's home(took a leave of 1 week), Unfortunately, my friend and his father both got covid which was more lethal this time. As a few restrictions were imposed on inter-state travel, I decided to stay at his place for a month. After the end of second week, I started working there in full swing meanwhile taking care of everything else. Meanwhile, my TL was so dissatisfied with my absence that he abused me over a phone call when I asked for an extension of a week's leave and then said he doesn't care about anything, be it death or whatever and that if I had to do all this, I should better leave the job. To top it all, my 3 year relationship with my gf ended as she cheated on me while we were on the verge of getting married. I went into depression battling all this. And even then he said, this is all nonsense and that I knew nothing of depression (he said he knew more and that I was making it all up). I even resorted to therapy which didn't help a lot but offered some relief. He even threatened to get my salary stopped because at this time because of all this happening, I was a pretty inconsistent. Now, let's get to benefits and all. The benefits, perks, allowances are just ZERO. When it comes to increments/bonus, it's close to none. For an exp, someone having an above average rating with 3-4 years of exp got a bonus of INR 1k($13-14) and an increment of 3k annually. Let's get down to opportunities now. We were barred from applying to Internal Job Opportunities (IJPs) within the company for a better project/tech, for around 18 months post our training, due to some sick policy. Further, you can sit for Specialist Programmer/Consultant roles and for that, you have to pass a test(competitive coding but not toooo difficult) and an interview. But sadly, the overall process from giving your tests to getting your training for specialist roles completed can take around 8 freaking months. I'd say, it's just a facade to lure people into it. The good thing for a Specialist Programmer is that your salary will be around 8LPA(~$11k per annum) and that you get to choose your technology and location. But your salary will get increased only once you complete your specialist role training, that too in the next quarter of your training completion. The one and the only Pro that I can think of joining Infosys is that there are a lot of good resources for learning/upskilling/reskilling. The resources are fantastic and equal the course work of Coursera, sometimes even better. Also, there are continuous sessions from the ETA dept and you can get enrolled in the monthly classes of your choice(in terms of tech). I learnt a few good technologies and when I started asking my TL/manager for a better project/release from my current one, I was ignored and told I'd be given an opportunity later, and later never came. You can only imagine the way this company works by getting to know that a lot of my batchmates who got trained in trending technologies like WebDev, MEAN/MERN Full Stack, Cybersecurity did not get even a single project for as long as 2 years post their training and were on Bench(keeping in mind that they couldn't switch before completing an year post training, otherwise would have had to pay a lot to the company based on an aggrement). To give you a clear picture, my shortcomings were: Being inconsistent, took a few leaves w/o informing in advance) but then on a lot of days, I'd complete the assigned tasks by late night (even upto 4AM) The only thing that floats my boat amongst all this chaos, depression, hopelessness is that I'm in the mid of preparing my applications for Fall next year and I'm pretty sure to bag an admit from some decent universities. Have a decent profile with a 9.5 GPA overall in undergrad from a Tier 2/3 univ in India. For people who'd ask why am I not switching as the market is on a high is that I've planned to do that once I'm done with my applications to save whatever I could before flying. After a lot of thought, I've put up a post here since a lot of particulars are involved. However, these are FACTS and I want people to know what sort of a company is this!. Pathetically, this has been my worst experience so far. I know a lot of you would be in the same position, feel free to reach out to me. Would be great and soothing to connect. TC(Really??, You're still waiting for this π) 4.5LPA(~$6.2k) YOE- 2.5 Thanks again for reading all this. Hope you have a fantastic dayπ!!! #depression #mentalhealth #wlb #career #it #worklife #worklifebalance
People getting burned out in companies like infyππ Lol
Sadly happens with a few unfortunate people like me. But in reality, these numbers in these kinda companies is pretty high.
I did 75%. TC is shiit, jump ship now. Once office opens, you'd be stuck forever
Thanks for the suggestion, working on it!
Well, I just took 10 mins to write that. Moreover, there's always an audience for these kinda posts. Thanks for your suggestion though!
All your problems could have ended in the second para had you just switched companies.
Yeah, but amongst this ordeal of covid and all, it was really too difficult for me to switch. Either you can take care of your health, family or look for better opportunities at a time right?
I don't think it was easy for OP. We all switched but I don't believe we were anywhere close to what OP was experiencing.
You have enough money to finance your MS studies? Or taking loan? But yes just get the hell out of that place.
Mostly loans bro...but I won't be going for too costly universities. Have it all planned.
It's 2021 and Infosys paying 4.5 Bohot chutiy@ company hai.
I was exactly in your situation, Was there, gave power programmer, cleared it, then waiting, waiting, waiting then switch without even getting official letter from them. True, ETA is good and better then coursera. Honestly, now releazing we had work life balance at infy.
Yeah brother, in some sense the WLB is good but that depends a lot on the project that you're in. On a few days, the work is less hectic and gets completed even within 3-4 hours but on the rest, it takes a toll. Plus, the support system and management along with perks & salaries is just shitt. But still, I agree with you upto some extent.
Resign nd..leetcode...
Fck this shit. Amazon is shit but now I feel it's much better shit
Hahaha...as they say, until you actually experience, 'The grass is always greener on the other side'
Amazon is shit π© with higher standards but this shit is like a blocked poop π. OP you better name me that MF TL name. I would abuse him lol
Do u think someone will read this book?? Keep it simple 2-3 liner.
