Hi everyone, I recently got an SMTS offer from Tableau with a 2 week expiry.

Firstly, thanks to everyone here for curating so much helpful career advice. I think that this site made a tremendous impact on navigating my job search.

I'm currently an L4 at Amazon, but my manager says that I can probably get promoted in Q2 of this year. Looking to leave Amazon given the WLB, culture, and promotion process.

I would accept straight away, but I have final rounds with Google, Hubspot, and Atlassian coming up, and I'm not sure these will fit the timeline Tableau is expecting.

For all Blinders:
- Is this a good shift away from Amazon L4? WLB is important to me, but the consensus on Blind seems to be that it should be de-prioritized early in your career.
- Should I expect a better offer package from any of these companies that I am still waiting on?
- What are your thoughts on going back on an accepted job offer? I have some ethical concerns on this, but have seen other Blinders disagree.

For Tableau employees:
- What is it like working as an SMTS? Will I be in over my head given my YOE?

YOE: 1.5
Offer TC: 260k
Current TC: 180k

Edit:
Offer is for Seattle office, breakdown is 180k base, 27k yearly bonus, 50k yearly stock.

Go for it! Even if you get promoted they won’t be able to give you 260k

Is getting SMTS with 1.5 YOE normal?

  • L4 to SMTS is a great tradition in general. The band for SMTS at Salesforce starts mid-L5 to early L6 at Amazon so that amazing.

I agree that you shouldn’t chase WLB this early on your career, however as an ex-AWS, I understand your position. I would say take the offer but leave on good terms with current team. Amazon is a great company and don’t burn the bridges.

    Congrats! 🍾

  • SFDC Sr Manager here.

Are you coming in with the experience they asked for? Right tech stack and other skills? You will probably be fine. Many are hired SMTS at 2+ years experience.

Can’t speak to Tableau’s expectations of an SMTS vs other parts of SFDC. Every part of SFDC is just a little different from the others, despite having broad shared definitions of roles.
