Just did my first leetcode comp. I noticed the top people finish in leas than 20 minutes. How the hell do they (you guys?) manage that?! Just the easy one too me 5-10 minutes because i need to check the language doc for function signatures. I didnt finish anymore before the 1.5 hours although I realized what i should have done for 2 others at the end. I cant even process how 1 easy, 2 mediums, and 1 hard could be solved in 15-20 minutes. I know I need to practice but those times are insane
Do a couple thousand questions and you will get the hang of it.
I’m at about 75. Started maybe a year ago and only do it here and there. I think I’ll set my goal this year to do at least 1 a day.
Perfect practice makes perfect
I used to think they're cheating or they "did" the questions before or something but they're not. Some people are just really fking good at it. They read the question and just type out the answer like it's being dictated to them.
I have realized that there’s tons of overlap in leetcode’s problem space. I guess once you have done so many the answers come easy. My problem I have is reading the question clearly. I need to be more careful. For example, this last problem was a binary tree, but I read it as binary _search_ tree. I was looking the test case that failed thinking the example was wrong for a good minute 😂
This is why hiring sucks. I just interviewed at Amazon to try and bump my tc a bit, and I had to actually THINK THROUGH an lc problem. I thought I did good, but they didn't want me to even come in for an onsight. Ok pal, well I'm sure the guy who memorized 420 lc problems will be s better fit. I've practiced some and can very quickly solve certain lc questions because they're so similar to others, but nobodies "solving" the problems quickly
Search errichto on YouTube and see how he does easy question in 30s lol
There’s a whole community around algorithms contests that has existed long before LeetCode came around. There are people who have years of extensive training on algorithms/DS, implementation, and contest strategy and that’s who you’ll see finishing LC contests in 20 min. I’ve personally done >2000 problems on Codeforces and more on other judges.

It's humbling to go to these competitions. You're finally able to start to do many of the LC Hards and you think you might be able to do an LC competition. You enter an LC comp and maybe you finish the first problem in a few minutes. Great, you're on track. 2nd one is an LC Medium, well it's a tiny bit harder but you have the general idea but it takes you 10-15 minutes to solve it fully with edge cases. You go back to your list of problems and see many have finished. It's over.
