ive been working at a startup for a couple months and I am applying for new jobs bc my boss is controling and taking advantage of me. -He screams at me (literally screams) for mistakes that i have not made knowingly because I was not trained or issues I have no control over (coffee machine not working, building manager not coming in ontime to look at a problem), -calls me ans texts me until I answer the phone at anytime of the day, one time he kept calling me during a funeral to yell at me for not answering an email even though he knew I was at a funeral -He will assign me a complicated tasks that involve throughly reading through paperwork and ask me every ten minutes if im done- until its done -he tells me im too nice and professional bc im not rude to people and do not chase people in a nasty way to get things done -vendors call me all the time because he constantly dodges paying people or pays them less than what is owed Ive had two panic attacks here (never happened in my life) during times where he was just yelling at me non stop and I recently found out the woman doing my job before made 50k more than me. what do you think?
Legal?! Do you watch too many American series? Nobody sues a boss for being an idiot or even an asshole. Leave. That’s what we do. Getting anxiety is not worth a paycheck in this strong labor market
I have 3 interviews this week
It’s better for your karma yo focus on your interviews and forget about the boss
Definitely find a new job. Once you are close to finalizing it- complain to HR. I know people are saying there is no point to taking legal action but take it- your boss needs to know he is wrong & need to mend his ways. Keep everything in writing- all his misbehavior/shout/mistreatments. And then use that as a proof for HR/Legal. Can you talk to your boss’s boss about it?
You have no legal claim. Find a new job and quit, the ordering is left as an exercise for the reader.
What do u mean by "What do u think?" Do we now have to do the thinking for u? You can't read simple paperwork. Take time away to attend to dead people. Entertain vendors asking for money. And have panic attacks on top of that. Do u need us to hire someone to hold your hands as well? Of course I am being sarcastic. This isn't the way a professional environment works. Get out of there.
Love your reply- I enjoy the sarcasm, it made me laugh about this terrible situation. Thanks!!
Scream back at him and stand up for yourself you wuss. What’s the worst that can happen? And document everything incident by sending an email to him and yourself every time it happens.
I reply with facts and he gets even more upset. One time he yelled at me for something he did wrong and I pointed it out and told him how he can fix it. He yelled at me and said that he doesn’t want solutions, he wants to know the process I’m going to take to make sure this doesn’t happen again..... so he found a way to put the blame back on me to make him feel better.
Why don’t you just quit? Your mental health is not worth whatever money you’re getting paid. Anyways you can find another job in a month or two.
Name and shame the startup.
Yes time to shame them publicly
I won’t shame but Once I leave then I will show all facts and you can decide for yourself how you feel about this company.
What legal action could you possibly pursue? Sue him for being a jerk? Just get a new job and leave.
Is he desi?
No not desi
This sounds like harassment enough to be legal harassment. It's not as easy to win as cases involving a protected class, but it sounds like you have plenty of ammo. Legal people would know what passes the bar and what doesn't, but the general rule is something that would hurt a reasonable person. If this thing got you in therapy or drinking, that's serious. Oh, and don't take legal advice from Blind. The answer here 99/100 times is to look for higher TC offers and LC, no matter what your post is about.
Haha. Try to find a new job first. Get an offer. This time make sure it’s good and then worry about any legal action. You can’t win anyway. First save yourself
I asked them questions during the interview that would decide whether I would take this job and they lied to me so I was hired under a false sense of work dynamics. They coned me from the start.
Then you should have quit right thena nd there as soon as you saw it. Just find a job and leave and don't look back! Good luck!
