both offers approved by hc. google gtech L6 IC vs linkedin eng manager tc google slightly higher, but LI better signing bonus. both just under $400 tc. am i right that this is a close call depending on what role i prefer? or is gtech so bad i should be discounting that role more?
Had a L4 G offer for 340k
G offer seems low for L6. What's the breakdown? Did you factor in bonus?
I believe gTech is considered non-engineering ladder, so closer in pay to eng L5. That’s something else I’m thinking about, I would be solidly in the eng org at LI.
You got lowballed by both G and Linkedin
Breakout?
Linkedin... better level, eng and manager status ...
Pay seems low for LinkedIn. If you perform well though you’ll get good refreshers.
Yeah they stepped it up substantially after I posted this. I heard refreshers are pretty weak, esp compared to G?
Idk if refreshers are weak, I am a high performer and have gotten amazing refreshers to double my initial grant after only 2 years there. It’s pretty awesome looking from my perspective.
Gtech is second class SWE. There is a reason why the interviews are easier than SWE. Also if you change jobs in 4 years, refreshers aren’t very important.
Congrats! Is GTech in the same ladder as Eng? That’s one thing I’d take into considerations. I was told by several LinkedIn folks there is no guaranteed refresher so the salary in the long term might be in Google’s favor. Third is to consider whether you want to be a manager or not.
Not eng ladder. Agreed I have to decide on role... I am an eng mgr right now but have kept up my technical chops.
