looking for a google team

Dec 25, 2019 21 Comments

I finished google onsite interview successfully for SDE. Tried to team match but no luck. Any hiring manager at google intersted to chat? Hold bachelor in Computer Science and masters with 9y exp. Strong programming skills and good publications. need to team match first then move forward to HC. I had my first call with a nice director and everthing was good then he politely said I will recommend you for that open poisition in one of my teams. Then, that team leader picked internal transfer. Then, had another call but didn’t work out. Just lost in the limbo!

  • “Hold bachelor from an Elite expensive university” Oh god I haven’t laughed this hard in so long. Thank you OP

    • @onthe I'm from San Jose but close enough. No way haha! That's like the 4th name I've seen in the past 15 years. Used to be Silicon Valley University before devry lol. Is 42, their graduation success rate? Or the success rate of people actually finding jobs?

I am not from USA and my university is comparable to Stanford in my country. It’s the most expensive one. Just stating my country and university are enough to be considered personal identification information.

Good for what you are doing. Just reminding you that the world isn't just FAANG. I turned down offers from microsoft 3 times (I'm older than you), and I'm about to retire at 49. There are many paths to success for people with skills, goals and focus.

What was your path, if you can share?

If you haven’t made it through HC, you can’t say you “passed” the interviews. You actually can choose go to HC review first without a team match, but team match might increase your chance of passing HC if you are the borderline hire.

Her feedback from HC was “coding style not good”, which was probably true. As I mocked interview with her, a concrete example is that she would write some edge case checks in the body of a recursion call, to pass in to the next level of recursion or not, verses writing the checks in the base case. The latter is definitely cleaner with little or no penalty on performance. Her code can be correct and functional for LC medium problem, but hard to read. Not to mention more not consistent coding style issues in her code.

Right that's why I said "we joked". Honestly it can be difficult to assess the feedback sometimes, my interviewer for Microsoft told me that they skipped his feedback because couldn't read his handwriting. My best interview was with him.

You can not find the team, does that mean they did not see you are good fit to the all the team? Or you don't see good fit in any of the roles? Sorry but new to googley.

  • How long has it been since you passed the interviews? Could be difficult finding an opening now because it's December?

He didn’t pass HC yet, he hasn’t “passed the interviews”. Google’s new process of team match before HC is confusing a lot of people.

You HAD strong programming skills? 😛 Just kidding, OP, hope you find a team soon! Congratulations! I'm sure Google will do whatever it takes to put you in the right team, maybe a factor that's affecting this is the holidays and people taking vacations...

You’re an “almost” googler now, might want to start using G titles instead of Amzn ones ;)

SDE II doesn’t mean anything at Google.
    Congrats btw
