2M isn’t life changing. You can think about wasting money on materialistic things when you get to 5M+.

I have to get a chuckle out of the comments poo pooing $2 million.

You guys really need to get out of your tiny Bay Area bubble.

$2 million in most of the country is enough to retire on, if you are smart about it (without even touching the principal).

Hell, pick up some gorgeous property in Portugal and live like a king on that. 350k Euro investment gets you fast tracked for citizenship, which opens you up to the EU.

If Europe isn’t for you, take a look at Central or South America (or, the horror, the mid-west US).

    • Even for the bay 2 million is fine to retire. That’s 80k following safe investments annually. 80k is not far off the median household income in sf. For a single individual it’s above the median. You would be living moderately, but I’d be fine retiring in sf with that amount.

Yes. Well over that. Almost that number in tech ETFs. I sell covered calls about 3 months out and buy puts with that premium to protect against 20+ percent drops. Also have multiple properties on < 3 percent mortgages because paying off a low interest mortgage is dumb.
