Recruiter asking for other offers

Nov 10, 2021 10 Comments

Just completed several on-sites and got some offers. I emailed the companies I’m in the loop with to have them expedite the process.

One of the recruiter asked if I can share the offer details to give them an idea of the salary.

I know I shouldn’t give the first number, how can I politely say I don’t want to share any numbers.

Or should I share my offers that I have received?

  • Don’t share. I usually say “I’m not comfortable sharing the offer details at this point”.

That’s not on your interest unless they put a number on the table and you really want to go there and their offer is too low.

  • Wait, what? They want to know the offer numbers even before concluding your on-site? Don’t share it, they want to see if the numbers are beyond their range to even expedite your interview.

You don’t have any leverage with them at the moment (until they are ready to make an offer). Unless you’d rather pursue other offers you already have coz of your tight timeline, don’t bother giving them the numbers first.

    • I should have mentioned, I emailed everyone that I completed an on-site with. That specific recruiter said the the feedback was positive and they want to set up a hiring manager interview. And then they asked for details of other offers.

An aside question, how do you go about planning your multiple interviews including screens? Say, did you apply in Sep, scheduled screens in Oct, and then on-sites in November?

    • I started applying 2 months ago. I would drag the process of any companies that replied quickly, for example Microsoft replied in the first week, I dragged the screening 2 weeks down and then I pushed my on-site down by 1 month, and then rescheduled. At one point I had to reschedule 3 on-sites in order to align them with other upcoming i sites that I was waiting for. I ended up scheduling 6 on sites in a 2 week frame.
