Please before you vote put yourself in my shoes and don't look at it from the perspective of a FANG engineer making $200K.

Context: new grad, OPT starts next month and have till 17 October to find a job (grace period), otherwise I'd have to leave the country.
Came across Revature videos on Youtube.

- 10 weeks of intensive training during which paid $8/hour
- At end of training sign contract to work exclusively for Revature's clients for $45,000 yearly for 2 years.
- To break the contract pay Revature $30,000 back.
- Could be placed ANYWHERE in the US and have no say on that
- No H1B sponsorship

Job market looks crazy these days and all my applications go to a black hole. I don't wanna lose my OPT and on the other hand Revature's pay is extremely low and no H1B sponsorship.
Anyone on OPT did that and ended up in a better position?

From what I’ve heard, it sounds like testing jobs would be preferred over one of these body shops

I've never heard about this company. But there are tons of consulting companies that pay higher and sponsor H1B.

  • Stay away from Revature. It’s not worth it. The volatility of placement and the low pay plus all of their unreasonable rules aren’t worth it. Somewhere like Infosys would be infinitely better - they atleast consider your preferences and the pay is better. Possibly look for jobs outside your state. Atleast that way you have control of where you move and when you can come back

  • I worked at revature. I met some great people but honestly I think you could do better. If you don’t find a client immediately after training you could end up having to relocate to one of their HQs. This could be difficult for you because of the low pay and having to afford housing (they offer to provide housing but they will reduce your already minuscule payment to cover the costs). You could end up benched for months with nothing to do. If you have a support system or live near their HQ then that may not be so bad (You can LC and study while getting a stipend basically) but once you actually start working you will be worked tirelessly for a fraction of what your fellow devs make - for two years. Projects also tend to have a habit of falling through and forcing you to relocate again. They also promise you fortune 500s but you end up working for other consulting companies that you could’ve applied directly to and pay more. I would honestly say infosys is the lesser of these evils if I had to choose. The pay is significantly better and they will Atleast consider your relocation desires
