i am 24 software developer living outside the USA and would like to get into FANG and thinking of masters as a good entry to the USA then springboard to FANG, what universities would you guys recommend? ..that is not so freaking expensive.. I got around 13k usd saved
I’m sure the Indian office hires a lot. Maybe apply there.
I am not from India .. I am from the Middle East ..
No and fuck off
SJSU and Calpoly for Cal, Stony Brook in NY, or Gatech/UIUC if you want a proper Master's degree.
FANGs don't really care about your degree that much. This is not finance where you they judge you by degree. You just need to leetcode mainly and then any third rate BSc will do just fine. US masters will slightly raise your odds of winning H1B lottery and that's about it. But you can also just start in an EMEA office and transfer a year later to US on L1B without any lotteries There are no cheap master degrees in the US when you think about it. If you look at tuition alone, an online degree like OMSCS would just about fit your budget, think it only costs about $7k. But your also pay with your time and opportunity costs there are enormous: 2-3 years of lost income, at US TCs of say $200k/y we talking about 6 figures here Just start leetcoding and interviewing asap, and settle for EMEA if you have bad luck with h1b
I am not in the USA so that is why I thought of joining a master program to be able to get f1 visa
Dude, you need to leetcode first of all and pass the interviews. Let the company and dice roll take care of visa. If luck is not in your favor, worst case you spend a year chilling somewhere like London before they can import you into US Masters is not needed to get into FAANG. And unless you really genuinely love the subject, it's also just a waste of time. Work experience is more valuable.
USC
A lot of companies have the almost the same pays and perks as FANG. So if you do come to the US don’t just focus on FANG. Blind is FANG focused but there are a lot of other great companies outside FANG too.
Well now I don’t know if I shall leetcode and try my luck with companies or get in the USA first then do the work
Even the FANG with lots of resources are reluctant to sponsor h1b. What make you think smaller startups are keen on the visa process?
Or do you guys think I got a shot of applying for internship while living abroad?
