I'm going to graduate next year; my gf and I want to eventually move to the US and get dual citizenship. How do we do that? What's the process?

I'm assuming that I'll be working on a TN visa as a new grad (but that's just because it's all I know)

Yes. You’re not supposed to go from tn-1 to permanent resident(green card) as that’s a direct violation of tn1. If you are transferring with meta ask them for a L1. Or start with tn1 then you’ll need to try and get and h1b. And once you have that, start the green card process.

What are extra steps if you are canadian citizen but born in India?

    • I’m not Indian born so I only know what I’ve read online. Someone will correct me if I’m wrong.

You can’t file I485 until your Priority Date becomes current so you’ll be dependent on EADs and APs until your PD becomes current which could be about 50 years.

Not a good place to be in but with premium processing maybe that’s ok.

  • 1. Apply for TN at the border
    2. Apply for EB2/3 Green Card
    3. Wait a few years
    4. File N400 for citizenship

Girlfriend can’t accompany you unless she qualifies for her own visa (get married it makes things so much easier).
