Hi,
Long-time scroller, first time poster here.
Graduated around 2 years ago with a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, and started working as a DV Engineer. However, I feel that my education isn’t complete yet, because the university I graduated from did not offer too many courses in the way of Hardware. I want to go ahead and pursue a Master’s degree with a concentration in Computer Architecture or Hardware Design. But, I already have my H1-B approved, and do not want to give it up for a full-time Master’s degree, nor do I want to give up the job security.

So, at this point, I’m looking for universities with solid Design/DV/Computer Arch courses which have good online programs, or other local universities which would let me complete the majority of my coursework over the weekends. I’m expecting that this won’t be easy, and it might take a few years to complete, but I think the additional knowledge I’ll gain will be worth it.

Wanted to post here and get any advice or feedback regarding this.

If it’s for educating yourself, there are a bunch of great resources to learn from online There is Prof. Ben Juurlink’s videos on that are clear and short on basic CompArch topics. For hardware design from circuit to GDS, you will need to get your hands on some tools. You can do the Apple trainings but a university course might help you build fundamentals better. GaTech MCS program has a good combination of CS and CompArch courses. You could also look at ASU’s online course in EE if you want a more hardware focused curriculum.

I’ll check this out. I wasn’t aware GaTech MCS had CompArch courses. I’ve also been considering an online Master’s from NC State.

Cool, thanks for letting me know! I’m located in the Bay Area, so hybrid wouldn’t work, but I’ll check their online program out

  • You can try at Illinois institute of technology online or hybrid (part online and part on campus) course. They do offer quite a lot of VLSI and micro electronics courses
