microsoft sign on bonus payment and rsu vest schedule

Amazon pays sign on bonus in part every month. does microsoft transfer sign on bonus in 1 pay check ? or does it add to your account every month on a prorated basis similar to amazon ? similarly for RSUs, when are the number of RSUs determined ? if for eg: 100k stocks to vest over 5 years, if price today is 100, one should get 200 stocks every year (50 per quarter, regardless of the price of MSFT each quarter ) . amazon does this with stock awards. what does micrsoft do ? #rsu #tc

Sign on bonus in one pay check. Number of RSUs are calculated sometime after you join and 1/5th of that number will vest every year. On-hire RSUs don't have quarterly vesting.

Is that to say that annual RSU vest quarterly?

Microsoft thisisbill Feb 22, 2020

Slightly nuanced. My onhire vest was 1yr for 25 percent then quarterly 6.25

My sign on RSU vested over 4 (even though annual RSU is indeed a 5 year schedule). Not sure if that's normal, ymmv. On hire does vest quarterly after the first year. I.e. first year vests on anniversary, quarterly thereafter.

Correct, same

Can you please explain what this means? I'm in the process of taking an offer and my negotiation is stuck on vesting schedule. Are you saying that normally it's 5 years but yours is 4 years?

My RSUs do not vest quarterly even after 1st year. It’s always been annual. Refreshers and SSA are on quarterly.

Microsoft BMri27 Feb 22, 2020

Interesting, I'm field and SI, so maybe there's something there. My refreshers are actually out of alignment with my sign-on RSU, so I have stock vesting every two months or so.

I am field sales as well.. joined 4 yrs back. I know few folks who are on same schedule as I am. There were few changes back in early 2017 where they made changes such as quarterly 5% vest as oppose to 10% semi-annual.. perhaps they made the RSU policy changes at that time?
